The one and only Louis Marx prototype

Supercar toy.

This page features just one item from my collection the Marx prototype Supercar.

This is the only known example.

A licence was granted but it didn't go into production.

I can only presume that the Fairylite Supercar hit the shops first and that Marx thought that there would not be sales for two friction drive plastic models of more or less the same dimensions, which is a huge shame as this toy would have been in every way superior to the Fairylite. The body is closely proportioned there are two nicely molded figures of Mike Mercury and Dr Beaker and the rear paneled section is clear red plastic so perhaps the production one would have had a "sparking" motor using flints as a few toys of the time did and so did the later Fairylite Fireball XL5.

The MARX Supercar and it's original box, that's "original" as in made yesterday. Although it never did have a box here is my interpretation of what it may have looked like.
